Review of Dungeon of Illusion by R.J. Gilbert

I didn't read the previous books in the series, so I wasn't as familiar as most readers would be of the characters and the world, but it was fun to find out as I went. We have a trio of explorers, one who is a fairy named Mary (she had a nice easy name to remember, which I appreciated). They seemed noble to others and true to each other, which was refreshing.

However, the show was stolen by the apparent henchman-villain of the story, a lizard-like being with a drone army at his disposal as he hunted down the protagonists on behest of his master. From that description, I got the idea of the world being a mixture of fantasy and sci-fi, which is one of my favorite mixtures (the whole lizard hunting them down also put me in the mind of a western, too, though that might just be my weird imagination). His character arc really drove the story.

Anyway, if you're looking for some speculative fiction to share with your younger siblings, this is a good series for you.

I received a copy from the author, but was not required to write an honest review.
