Cover Reveal!

Welcome back, agents. I have fantastic news! Today is the cover reveal for the sequel to Nicki Chapelway's Alice and Wonderland retelling, Return to Amar!

Hi, everyone! I'm Nicki Chapelway, I'm a twenty-something fantasy indie author. I write YA, NA, and adult books; however, all of my works can be considered clean. I create stories about twisty-stabby faeries, morally gray anti-heroes, large casts of misfits, and found families. I love writing dark retellings of fairytales, stories full of monsters, and different takes on mythologies. My books always have a touch of humor, a hint of romance, and a dash of magic.

I'm a self-taught struggling artist. Mostly I draw my OCs, but occasionally I can be seen drawing anything from my fandoms.

For a quick trip down memory lane, here is book one:

Alicia Hareton is crazy. But that's nothing new. Her insanity is inherited from her mother, just like her magical abilities and her blood ties to the strange and alluring world of Amar. She's spent her life on Earth, and yet Amar has always called to her - an intoxicating melody that she cannot ignore. Returning to Amar would put her life in danger, but Alicia has never let such technicalities stop her before.

However, when her mother is captured due to her reckless actions, Alicia will do anything to rescue her. That includes trusting her grumpy, sarcastic imaginary friend, who claims he doesn't know her and doesn't seem that imaginary anymore. Or that trustworthy. Together, with the help of her cousin and a band of misfits, they partake in an extremely ill-advised heist on the faerie court in order to find a way to defeat the most powerful mage in all Amar, who also happens to be Alicia's grandfather. But not everything in the faerie court is as it seems, and soon this unlikely group find themselves fighting for their lives as well as the lives of those they love.

In a world of madness and magic, the lines between lies and loyalty are blurred and sometimes the only option you have left is to let the insanity loose.

Get it in kindle, paperback, and hardback

And now brace yourself for the gorgeous second book cover . . .

My story ended with the word, “Run.”

One tiny, little, three letter word, and it all came to a crashing final halt.

This is getting weirder and weirder. Or how was it in that book that Alicia liked? Curioser and Curioser? That seems to sum it up pretty well.

Sometimes I like to imagine six impossible things and make them real.

Impossible thing one: I freed Dante

Impossible thing two: I will defeat Marius

Impossible thing three: I will prove to Dante that he loves me

Impossible thing four: I will prove to Olivia that she loves Eugene

Impossible thing five: I will find a way to help my mother

Impossible thing six: I can do all of these things at no personal cost to myself

It has been nearly a year since the events that put her mother in a coma. Since her grandfather and Dante were imprisoned in the Unrealm. Since she’s last stepped foot in Amar. Trying to put heartache and broken promises behind her, Alicia attempts for the first time in her existence to actually live a regular life with the help of her cousin Olivia who is determined to forget everything that ever happened in Amar. But as cracks begin appearing everywhere, showing glimpses into the other worlds, Alicia realizes that “normal” has always been helplessly out of her reach.

Marius is fighting to break free from his prison, and reality is tearing at the seams to try to hold him in. The only way to save the four realms is for Alicia to find a way to stop her grandfather once and for all. But how does one defeat an immortal? Alicia offers him a bargain. Play a game against her, winner takes all. The stakes are her future, her mother’s life, and the freedom of the boy she loved—and still possibly might. Only the most powerful mage in all Amar will walk away. But in order to win, Alicia must become like her grandfather and be willing to use her friends as pawns. People have betrayed her, but that’s just an occupational hazard, right? What goes around comes around doesn’t it? Anything is fair game when the fate of everything is involved.

In this twisted world trust, safety, and sanity are all just an illusion. And sometimes reality doesn’t deserve to be saved.

Whose bright idea was it to put me on the throne anyway?

We all know that I’m just going to make a bloody mess of things.

If my courtiers could know how I cry every night from loneliness, they would not fear me at all.

Or perhaps they should fear me more. Because maybe there is nothing more frightening than a lonely, unpredictable queen who doesn’t know how to rule.
