Excerpt of Intergalactic Witness Protection
“Soon, we will reclaim the sample for you, with your permission, and your wife will be returned to you.”
“Ma’am, that won’t be necessary.”
Killa stops talking, dumbfounded.
“My wife does not have an ADS sample.”
Rosie almost drops her clipboard. Killa almost drops her jaw.
Reverend Shipping sighs deeply, like he’s preparing to go into a conversation he’s already participated in. “We decided as a couple that this practice in immorality was not what God planned for humanity, and it wouldn’t actually be us anymore. So neither of us have an ADS sample.”
Killa blinks rapidly, looking at a loss of words. After all, when was the last time she had to comfort someone who had really, truly lost someone for good.
Of course, she didn’t come along until Orion finished grieving his father.
Rosie clears her throat. “The Reverend isn’t alone. It is an increasing trend in the medical world, usually for religious reasons...”
At the word ‘religious,’ Killa’s eyes flash. Her Martian upbringing left no room for anything but stoic discipline with which to face the worlds. “Very well. Please alert Alicia Ivy if you need anything.”
